My Gamma.

My Gamma. When I picked up my Studio 44 last summer, the first thing I noticed was the typeface‚ definitely a nice add—on to this great vriting machine. But something even more interesting I noticed only when I gave the machine a first longer test at home, I then suddenly discovered the unusual signs on the key next to the ^/‘ and was stunned: My Olivetti featured the greek letters γ (gamma) and μ (my)‚ I then noticed that the keytop with the greek letters had a minor difference to the other ojes: The letters were slightly carved in, all others were just plain flat. The same with the typeslug: Just a minor difference. It had a touch of gold‚ while the others were just grey. Also, it had a slightly different shape. I don't know anything about the former owners of this machine, but my theory is that a natunfl scientist or a mathematician needed these signs and had them added to the machine. I don't know who added the signs to the machine, but it's a nice addition of (hi)story to this machine. γ μ. maschinengeschrieben.blogspot.com

Very nice to have a special typewriter.

Very interesting! I wonder if the equal/minus slug was also a replacement. The numbers don't match.

Nice discovery!

Thanks for your comments.
@Dwayne: I've noticed that, too. Also the `/^ has a 7 on the typeslug, maybe it's because they were not available in the same font, but it makes no difference because they're so simple.

How cool is that! Funny how you sometimes notice new things on a typewriter you have had for a while :)

That's very cool, and a beautiful typeface. What did Olivetti call it?

@Adwoa: Indeed, for example I used my Optima for a few weeks until I finally found the tabulator. :)
@notagain: Thanks. I actually don't know the name of the typeface.

I'd risk to say that the previous owner was a chemist. Gamma and my are usually used as measures units. And I remember seeing my mother using the ^ as exponential, like 10^3. But that's just a lucky guest :) The best thing of having a typewriter with history is letting our imagination running free. And the typeface is really beautiful.
