The Collection: Olympia SM3

Typecast Translation:
The Collection: Olympia SM3
In the series "The Collection", we present you the typewriters of maschinengeschrieben.blogspot.com.
Today's issue was written on the Olympia SM3 from 1956.

De Luxe, noisy and solid
The Olympia SM3, manufactured by Olympia in West Germany, is knwon to the typosphere as the holy grail. Rightly so, this machine is indeed very special. On the one hand she writes with a rather sharp tone and quite loud, on the other she's a fully fledged office machine, flawlessly crafted. It would actually surprise me if my SM3 would ever be put into repair. There's a feeling of value in the SM3. It feels as if you could still write after a bomb attack next to the desk on the Olympia. With the really loud sound that  the Olympia delivers  while you type, the impact would probably be overheard. If you're looking for a typewriter, which can potentially heard in the entire house, the Olympia is perfect. Also in transport condition, she's impressive, in the streamline-case with hammertone painting, which is vaguely reminiscent of Batman. Office undercover? Another feature of the "office machine" SM3: The tabs must be placed by hand, no levers that sets the limit, the six pints must be moved on the back. This is manual work.
Manual work is also needed when writing itself, the weight of the machine is reflected in lifting the carriage with the little finger, noticeable, but not really disturbing. The feeling of typing on the keyboard is very nice, comparable to the Olivetti MP1. Even if there is somehow still a greater sense of writing. But this is really machine writing.

This tube, made of solid metal, belongs to the Corona Four. If you open it, the bar attached to the cap may be unplugged. Does anybody know what was in this tube and for what it was meant?

Nice. That's exactly the reason for what everybody needs 1 (or 15'000?) typewriter for.

Great. If you don't want to look all the 5'30 minutes, it's really worth it, I suggest jumping to 4'12". There was no computer animation back in 1935!

First as I saw the image, I expected an article about typewriters (Wasn't there one linked somewhere in the Typosphere recently?), but it turned out to be more about selling personal belongings of criminals. Nice Corona, though.

New York Times Article about the 1929 Wall Street Crash, see link, re-typed on the 1930-Corona Four

Stocks Collapse In 16,410,030-share Day, But Rally At Close Cheers Brokers; Bankers Optimistic, To Continue AidCLOSING RALLY VIGOROUS Leading Issues Regain From 4 to 14 Points in 15 Minutes INVESTMENT TRUSTS BUY Large Blocks Thrown on Market at Opening Start Third Break of Week. BIG TRADERS HARDEST HIT Bankers Believe Liquidation Now Has Run Its Course and Advise Purchase Stock prices virtually collapsed yesterday, swept downward with gigantic losses in the most disastrous trading day in the stock market's history. Billions of dollars in open market values were wiped out as prices crumbled under the pressure of liquidation of securities which had to be sold at any price. There was an impressive rally just at the close, which brought many leading stocks back from 4 to 14 points from their lowest points of the day. From every point of view, in the extent of losses sustained, in total turnover, in the number of speculators wiped out, the day was the most disastrous in Wall Street's history. Hysteria swept the country and stocks went overboard for just what they would bring at forced sale. Efforts to estimate yesterday's market losses in dollars are futile because of the vast number of securities quoted over the counter and on out-of-town exchanges on which no calculations are possible. However, it was estimated that 880 issues, on the New York Stock Exchange, lost between $8,000,000,000 and $9,000,000,000 yesterday. Added to that loss is to be reckoned the depreciation on issues on the Curb Market, in the over the counter market and on other exchanges.
