The flatbed scanner was invented 1975 by the most remarkable Ray Kurzweil, together with optical character recognition and text-to-speech synthesis. He developed the flatbed scanner after a conversation with a blind man who expressed the desire to have a machine that could read all types of characters and transfer the content into an audible voice.

I agree. It is a wonderful way to bring the old into the new whether in print or image(s).

I am also very thankful for the invention of the scanner. These "typecasts" on blogs is a very interesting blend of old and new technology.
