That is great! There are advantages to digital technology, but the analog technologies have their own strengths as well. I'm glad that teachers are helping people think through the differences.
Great topic of discussion. Then use the typewriter. Everyone worries about mistakes or ribbons. Well, if one learns to type mistakes generally will go away. No different than a PC keyboard. The biggest difference is we can be lazy on a computer and hope the spell checker works. However spell checkers do not work as in headline of all things I read yesterday about "one must thing correctly" Spell checkers and the other crap on a PC are not smart enough to know that think was incorrectly spelled.
I find all these news encouraging and interesting, not only because they involve machines that, back in the day, were considered a mere tool, but because they show that those old tools can still be useful today.
For example, I just received a comment in my blog from a lady who tells me she just unpacked her old Olivetti Studio 46 so that her son could learn how to type. And I personally have to say that, since I started typing again on my mechanical typewriters, my typing speed and accuracy has improved notably, and that has benefited me in my line of work as translator (I have to type a lot on a daily basis, albeit on a computer keyboard... but maybe one of these days I'll turn in a translation completely typed on my Remington 12...) XD
