Zurich, Bellevue 26.10.12 At the Bellevue statmen, an important node of theZurich tram system, there is the full rushhour at6 PM. Business people are on their waz home andchange trams, teenagers meet, shoppers bring theirtreasures home - and on this Fridaz evening, whenit was already starting to become dark, type clackswere prominently audible: As a part of the Zurich book festival "Zürich liest", travel magazine TRANSHELVETICA installed a mobile writing bureau. writers offered the passer-bys to write thetravel of their dreams on their Hermes Babies. Thetypewriters caught the eye of many travellers, andI was instantly noticed by the writers when I firsttook some photos and then opened the small case ofmy trusty Corona 3. I sat at the table next to themand started typing this post. After a few minutes,I was approached by a group of teenagers my age,and they asked me what this was and what I wasdoing. I explained to them that those people nextto me were professional typists and that I didn'tbelong to them. Then, the bravest of them dared toask me if he could type a bit on the Corona, andsince this first draft had some mistakes anyway,I quickly threw away that Iheet of paper and inserted a new one. One after another, they typed a few sen-tences each. Their comment: 'So much cooler thanwiriting on the Mac!" One of them even asked wherehe could buy a typewriter and asked me to tell himwhich one would be good for him. In the meanwhile,the typeclacks of the writing bureau were gone - thethree women were apparently out of work. Someminutes later, a customer ordered a travel, andsoon, the Hermes Baby of the writeress who was usinga typewriter for the first time this day wasclacking again. I can truly say that I haven't yetseen so many faces noticing and admiring those curious machines. A great way to promote typing and typewriters and you are in a place where there seems to be quite a good variety of machines available.
