Wow, fantastic venue, and fantastic machines they had on display! I'm amazed at the Sholes & Glidden, complete with sewing machine-style cabinet and "throttle pedal!". And the crates for the old desktops! I spy a "Remington Typewriter" crate there. Impressive!
I'll have to find a good carpenter (or try to remember what my dad taught me about carpentry) and try to build some crates like those... old-style, of course, with good dovetail or cabinet finger joints!
Looks like a wonderful place to visit. It is great that you got to attend such a meeting. I think one of the high spots would be getting to see a real live and in-person (or in-typewriter) Writing Ball.
This definitely was a super event - I took some close-ups of the tools here: http://schreibmaschinenbasel.blogspot.ch/2013/02/nutzliches-werkzeug-zur.html I hope this workshop series continues - I am sure it will after the big success it met at this premiere.
Thanks for all of your comments! Visiting the museum and the workshop were great experiences. I didn't get to type on the Malling-Hansen ;), but most of the machines weren't behind glass. A Klein-Adler on the sales shelf was the only machine I actually wrote on, though.
