Typewriter Cases: The Smart, The Average And The Stupid

Smart: Hermes Baby. Light, durable, small and easy to put on/off.
Average: Engadine 44 (and many others). Quite light and small, possible to write with typewriter in case if required.
Stupid: Olivetti Lettera 32 (and some other Olivettis). Made from cheap cardboard, unhandy, stupid need to take the typewriter out of the case for writing.

Biggest flaw with the Hermes case: The design meant that many people bent their carridge leaver (although this is largely a poor typewriter design).

I may have to do a comparison of mounting mechanisms now.

Interesting observations. I agree that those cheap Olivetti cases are ridiculous.

Although I am a huge fan of Olivetti, I don't care much for their cases, with the probable exception of Studio 45.

Agreed. The Hermes Baby has an elegant case. The Lettera? Not so much...

You should see the cardboard case our Lettera 32 came with when my dad bought it new back in '65... it still exists, mind you, but this has a ZIPPER that runs all around the case, holding together the base and the cover... and that zipper broke and fell apart many years ago. Your case looks a lot sturdier than ours.
