Zurich Typehunt: 21 Days Later.

Remember the last Zurich Typehunt? Exactly, the one with 20 typewriters. This is how the situation looked like three weeks later. Zurich, October 26.

The place where the Hermes Standard sat last time is now occupied by Christmas decorations.

The usual typewriter space is "empty" as well.

At Citroën-Garage, the horde moved to yet a new location in the store. This place seems to constantly undergo change.

Hermes 3000.2, Olympia/AEG Traveller DeLuxe, topless Adler/Triumph, Hermes 3000.3, Swissa Junior, Precisa calculating machine, Olivetti Lettera 32.

The the brocki-welt sub-store, Christmas arrived as well.

The Olympia SM7/8/9 is in a state of decay - it feels more rattley than last time, the typebars were jammed and I had to change the colour selector lever - it was set to white. The Hermes Standard still sat next to it, and without ribbon nor paper, it probably hadn't been tortured. The Underwood Finger-Flite was still there as well, hidden in its case.

The store on the demi-floor also had a new layout. The Orga had a more prominent space, but the store was closed.

At Salvation Army, the Olympia Traveller DeLuxe was gone.

The olivetti Lettera 38C however hadn't found a buyer (yet).

*The color of the Optima Elite is a fresh green - it doesn't show up well in the photos.

The collection: Optima Elite in the series "The Collection", we present the type- writers on the selves of masdinengeschrtben. I corrected that with a drop of hdt glue. ' After world war II, Olympia engineers fled from the soviet-occupied part of eastern germany, where the Olympia typewriters were being made until then. They brought their know-how to western Germany and after a few stages in between, production of typewritrs started again, in Wilhalmshaven. Meanwhile, in the soviet zone, the original factory had started po pnfl- uce typewriters, too, and a few years later, there was the court decision that the western Olympia could keep their name and the original factory in the east has to change it. They renamed it Optima, after a font. Still, the Olympia SM—2, 3 and 4 and the Optima.Elite have shared ancestors. Numerous designs remained un- changed, not only in my earlier Optima Elite, but also in this later one. In terms of typing action, there is a cenin change, though. EXIF

EXIF Back in the days when Optima typewriters were clacking in Stasi offices in the GDR and Underwoods typed out top-secret reports in Secret Service headquarters, there were specialists who could identify a typewriter from its typeface. If they got a used ribbon, they could find out what documents had been typed with the ribbon and how long they were. And every typewriter—human combination had an unmistakeable fingerprint. But those were specialists. These days, our cameras save much more sensible data in the pictures, and we share those with the world via Internet. The EXIF metadata standard is widely accepted, pretty much every camena uses it. There are useful things like exposure and ISO data saved, those can definitely help improve one's photo- graphy skills, but there's also data than one might not want to share with the world. At least not in every photo: Modern cameras with GPS modules also save the geographical location into the metadata, so everyone knows where you took the picture of that pyramid - or your car/house/dog... The serial number of your camera is saved into the EXII information, so you don't need the experts previously mentioned anymore, but include this sensitive data into your image. And EXIF is only an example, there are many more metadata standards, for antoher example, Word documents save your changes and often your full name and the computer's name. Typewriters in the Movies: Silent Souls

I told her about the blog, and she said that she had seen a film recently, Silent Souls, and that there was a scene with a typewriter being thrown into a frozen river. Back home, I searched for the film, and I found a still of the typewriter immolation on the website of the movie. It is a russian-made 8M, headless and with cyrillic keyboard, as it turned out, which is sinking between smashed ice. I don't know if the filmmakers rescued the typewriter after shooting the scene, but I fear they didn't do so. Machines à écrire dans les Films: Silent éouls Quand je filmais les Tnrpedo glissant sur la congelés Huttnersee, une femme s'est approché de moi et a demandé ce que je faisais avec la machine à écrire. Je lui ai parlé le blog, et elle a dit qu'elle avait vu un film récemment, Silent Souls, et qu'il y avait une scène avec une machine à écrire d'être jeté dans une rivière gelée. Retour à l'accueil, j'ai cherché pour le film, et j'ai trouvé un encore de l'immolation de machine à écrire sur le site de le film. Il s'agit d'une fabrication russe 8M, sans tête et avec cyrillique clavier, comme il s'est avéré, qui s'enfonce entre la glace brisée. Je ne sais pas si les cinéastes sauvé la machine à écrire après le tournage de la scène, mais je crains qu'ils ne le font pas.
